ADY Pennock’s squad overhaul is underway after the Forest Green boss parted company with 10 players, including the shock exit of former captain Jared Hodgkiss.
The popular out of contract former West Brom right-back had previously been offered a one-year deal to remain at the New Lawn, but was informed his five-year spell at Rovers was over after the final Skrill Premier match of the season on Saturday.
Pennock said: "Jared has been an excellent captain and ambassador for FGR and I wish him all the best in his career.
“I did offer Jared a contract about a month ago, but he wanted to wait and see what was out there.
“ I couldn’t wait around forever because I need to look at other options and we came to a mutual agreement that he would be moving on.”
Pennock also confirmed that Forest Green record goalscorer Yan Klukowski and defender Jamie Turley had both been offered new contracts, but have chosen to move on with pending moves into the Football League.
Midfielder Klukowski, 27, is being courted by two unnamed Football League clubs and Turley is understood to be close to agreeing terms with Mark Cooper’s Swindon Town.
Pennock added: "Yan Klukowski and Jamie Turley had both been offered new contracts, but have declined offers in order to secure League football.
“Both Yan and Jamie have been excellent servants to FGR.
"Yan’s record speaks for itself, he always gives 100% and has been top drawer all- round. Likewise, Jamie has been an excellent professional and a very capable and adaptable defender.
"They have both expressed a desire to play League football next season, and while we were keen to keep them at the club, we respect their ambitions and wish them the best of luck.”
Fans' favourite Reece Styche, who is on loan at Wycombe, defender Ed Asafu-Adjaye, midfielder Stephen Brogan, utility man Paul Green, winger Saul Williams and goalkeeper Adam McHugh have all been released after reaching the end of their contracts.
Pennock said: "Ed Asafu-Adjaye, Paul Green and Reece Styche have all been top class professionals, on- and- off the pitch. I wish them all of them the best for the rest of the careers in football.”
Striker Jason Walker also reached the end of his contract term and has left the club by mutual consent.
Forward Matty Taylor has also reached the end of his contract, and has been offered new terms, but has yet to put pen to paper.
