Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One

Star FC 3 Dursley Town 1

DURSLEY chose one of their biggest games of the season to turn in a clownish performance that left them slipping ever closer towards the relegation trapdoor.

Town will now finish in the bottom three, although with Cheltenham Civil Service set to be promoted to the County League, just two sides are expected to be relegated.

With Bredon already down, it means Terry Stevenson’s side must take two more points than third-from-bottom Lydbrook from their respective last two matches.

Dursley made a good start, but steadily tailed off and conceded two goals to Shaun Gluyas and Andrew Herbert in a five-minute period midway through the opening half.

The visitors improved a little in the second half, but Nathan Vines and substitute Antonio Forgione blazed over, while a Rich Crowcombe header smacked the bar.

Kyle Ward eventually bundled the ball in from Dan Lees’ knock-on ten minutes from time, but Star went straight back down the other end and Steve Conway scored a third.

Dursley: K Watson; L Jones (K Ward 46), S Hobbs, R Crowcombe, D McNally; N Vines (A Forgione 60), J Stevenson, M Humphrey (B Jones 46), S Miles; D Lees, C Mills.

* Dursley visit derby rivals Sharpness on Tuesday evening (6.30pm) before finishing their campaign at home to Brockworth Albion on Saturday (3pm).

* Dursley thirds moved off the bottom of Stroud League Division Five with a 5-4 home win over their Tuffley Rovers counterparts in their final game of the campaign.
