LAKEFIELD School girls narrowly missed out on a place in the final at Gloucestershire’s Kwik Cricket county finals.

The Frampton-on-Severn school reached the semi-finals in the all-girls competition, while Cam Everlands had a side competing in the open event at the iconic Cheltenham College – home of the Cheltenham Cricket Festival.

Both schools won district finals to take their place at the even – but it was Christ Church Downed left celebrating a double triumph, beating Henleaze to take home the open title (for boys and girls) and triumphing over Great Rissington to secure victory in the girls’ competition.

More than 200 children from 24 primary schools all over Gloucestershire took part. The finals day consisted of a 16-team ‘open’ festival for boys and girls and an all-girls competition featuring the best eight schools.

All the pupils taking part received Gloucestershire CCC goodie bags and met players Gareth Roderick and James Fuller, who were on hand to sign autographs and lend a few words of wisdom.

Players from the Gloucestershire Women’s team helped umpire and score the matches.
