Kingswood Village (226-6) beat Commoners (225-9) by four wickets

A RAPID partnership by Kingswood's Ben Foxwell and Angus McCubbin over Commoners' bowling and fielding supremacy was just enough to bring a last-over victory in a high scoring game.

Kingswood's waywardness with the ball and the ring of steel in the field more a ring of sleep leaked runs and catches, allowing Commoners' Harvey (22), Linburn (15), Crampton (79), Godden (32) and Fearnley (42) to make contributions to a strong 40-over total.

Only veteran Alvin Taylor (3-31), 15-year-old Mike Barnes (3-51), and, eventually, good catches and a run out by McCubbin, Rich Wilding and Foxwell kept Kingswood from a seven runs per over chase.

Needing 5.6 per over, Kingswood were just 83-2 at the 20th, losing the prized wickets of Ken Wood (2) and Wilding (27).

With Commoners' bowlers sharing the wickets and Kevin Morgan (9) and Steve Barnes (8) dismissed, Kingswood were left with a target of 112 off the last 13 overs – a tall order.

The game changed with 87 in nine overs from McCubbin and Foxwell.

Though McCubbin fell at 201-5 for 47 and Rory Thomas for four soon after, Foxwell's splendid 104 not out and Taylor's unbeaten 11 saw the hosts to an unexpected victory.
