Mayo Senior Cup Final

Frampton-on-Severn (144-9) beat Painswick (129) by 15 runs

FRAMPTON replicated last year's final win over Painswick at Kings Stanley to retain the Mayo Senior Cup.

A great team effort backed up by some excellent fielding secured a well-deserved victory for Frampton.

Winning the toss, Frampton chose to bat first and started strongly, taking 28 off the first four overs before Tom Warren fell caught behind.

Matt Cayless followed shortly after, run out taking a second run to a misfield.

Lee Driver-Dickerson and Dan Huxstep then got the momentum going in Frampton’s direction until spin bowler Nick Marment had Huxstep caught off his very first ball for 13.

Partnerships then followed with Driver-Dickerson taking the commanding role, moving the score on to 115 in the 17th over whilst all the while the wickets were falling.

Frampton managed an excellent 29 off the last three overs to post a competitive total off their 20 overs.

Driver-Dickerson was the star man with the bat, scoring 74 including ten fours.

Nick Marment was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5-42.

Frampton had the dangerous James Cook to contend with first up and Painswick took 25 off the first three overs before Russ Hopkins was caught behind off Dan Huxstep for 14.

Craig Barnfield kept things tight at the other end and when Dan Halsey joined him in the attack the stranglehold became tighter.

Halsey had Andrew Edwards lbw and captain Ed Bressington clean bowled for one in a devastating spell, leaving Painswick on 75-4.

Matt Cayless, bowling at pace, joined in the attack and claimed Ben Neville’s wicket off the seventh ball of his first over.

Cook always backs himself with the big shots but some poor running meant runs were being missed and Painswick were falling behind the run rate.

Dan Huxstep took an excellent catch in the deep off Halsey to remove David Boon for three.

Realising the game was in the balance, Cook smacked Huxstep into the road for six but paid the price the next ball as his stumps were demolished for a well-deserved 50.

Marment was the last man to show any resistance as the innings finished on 129 all out.

Cayless was the star man with ball, taking 5-31, backed up by Dan Halsey with 3-19.
