Kingswood Village (164) lost to The Gavin Easthope Memorial XI (165-5)

WHAT well may be the final game in memory of former Kingswood vice-captain Gavin Easthope, sadly killed with his sister Karen and friend Phil in 2005, suitably finished with an overwhelming victory for Gav's XI against his former club.

Batting first, Kingswood did not survive their allotted 40 overs.

Skipper and opener Kevin Morgan (73) batted virtually right through the innings with useful support from Rich Wilding (24), Dave Cook (14) and Andy Symanowski (20), whilst the innings was chipped away for just 164 by teenagers Fin McCubbin, Adam Morgan and Joe Avis with a little help from veterans Barry Morgan, Nick Terrett and Angus McCubbin.

Gav's XI, especially Ben Foxwell, made light of the task to win by five wickets and 12 overs.

Supported by Jim Cole (16), Nick Terrett (11) and Barry Morgan (23*), Foxwell led the way to what looked like another personal century, only to be caught brilliantly on the boundary, one handed, the other recovering from a break, by Iain Green for 96.

Where others might have rued their luck, Foxwell smiled his way to the boundary.

Each year there has been a post match award of a tankard to the player, who most reflected Gavin's carefree approach to cricket.

For his demeanour, rather than score, the unanimous verdict was for Foxwell.
