CHIPPING Sodbury kept alive their hopes of a great escape from the WEPL Glos & Wilts relegation zone with a tremendous 45-run win away to second-placed Rockhampton, who saw their title dream evaporate in the process.

The result moved Sodbury off the bottom with two games to go, at home to Biddestone on Saturday and then home to Tewkesbury.

Rockhampton are now 35 points behind champions-elect Lechlade and appear to be in a battle to finish as runners-up, visiting their closest rivals Swindon on Saturday.

Sodbury, who won the toss at the Boundary Field, elected to bat and reached 197-7 with Jamie Rendell top scoring on 76.

Dave McCabe and Guy Brothwood took two wickets apiece for Rockhampton.

The Rams, who in June crushed Sodbury by nine wickets, were then bowled out for 152.

Opening batsman Will Tyler top-scored with 43 but when he followed Rob Belbin and Brothwood back to the pavilion with the score on 73 Rockhampton lost their way.

Dan Clark and Robert Mozelewski both took three wickets, while Jon Toghill took 2-28 off ten overs.
