THE Slimbridge Summer Skittles League concluded with the individual competitions and league presentation evening.

Sixteen players entered the Men’s Singles competition with each player bowling six legs and the top two scores battling it out in the final for the title.

Steve Arkwell of Snorts FC got off to the best possible start, hitting a 13-spare, however he was unable to keep up his early form and finished with a total of 38.

Richard Fry of Snorts FC scored 40 but fell short of a place in the final; whilst Jason Medcroft of Shake Hands with 42, and Robert Sims, also of Shake Hands, scored 43; both not quite scoring enough to take their place in the final.

Going through were Craig Banrfield of Slimbridge RBL and John Handley of Snorts FC.

The former hit a final leg 14-spare to sneak into the final with a score of 45, whilst consistent scoring saw Handley hit 47.

The final was a tight affair with Handley hitting a third leg 16-spare to open up an 11-pin advantage.

However, Craig Barnfield hit back with a13-spare in the next leg to reduce the deficit to four pins, which Handley managed to hold on to and take the title.

The Ladies Singles took the same format with six players entering as Sue Coole and Lorna Price, both from Slimbridge RBL, progressed to the final; the former hitting a 13-spare in her total of 48 whilst the latter scored a 14-spare in her total of 42.

The remaining players couldn’t compete with their consistency as Normar Mears scored 32, Sam Tarr 26, Bev Lord 24 and Trudy Barnfield 23.

The final saw Price open up a single pin first leg advantage which she increased to to 12 pins by the third leg as Sue Coole struggle to score.

Despite clawing six pins back on the final legs the latter was unable to overturn the deficit, losing by six pins The Pairs competition saw ten teams enter as Trudy Barnfield and Craig Barnfield hit a total of 91 in six leg to pull 16 pins clear of the nearest score to move into the final.

Robert Sims and Martin Livell of Shake Hands scored 76 to comfortably take the second highest score and earn a place in the final; eight pins clear of John Handley and Richard Fry, who scored 68, whilst Steve Brown and Mark Smith scored 65 and Gareth Markey and Peter Hill hit 61.

The final saw the Shake Hands pair of Mark Livell and Robert Sims take the title.

Standing a single pin down after the first leg, they fell a further two pins behind by the third leg.

They lost a further pin in the fourth leg but entered the final leg just three pins behind.

The former pair finished with a total of ten, meaning Sims and Livelled required 14 to win.

Starting with a score of six, the latter hit nine to take the title.
