Keynsham 12 Wotton 28

WOTTON travelled to Keynsham bolstered by the close season signings of Dan Lotinga, Huw Edwards and Jon Muckle.

The visitors found the first quarter of this trial game tough against a very physical side, who were well organised.

It took some solid defensive work to prevent the hosts from crossing the line.

The defensive effort was led by Gary Alexanderov with Dan Isaac, Boris Bennett and Gee Davies making a number of bone crunching tackles.

Wotton started the second quarter a lot stronger and started to execute their game plan more effectively.

It was the visitors who opened the scoring with Joe Horton and Olli Boyle combining well to release wing wizard Huw Edwards, who effortlessly skipped around a number of would-be tacklers before being halted just short.

Wotton recycled the ball quickly resulting in the prolific Joe Horton scoring after a lovely side-step. Rob Marlow stroked over the conversion with ease.

Some great carries from Niall Kincaid, Dom DeSousa, Josh Knight and James Needs gave Wotton a great platform to attack and it wasn't long before the brilliant Alex Irons found a hole in Keynsham's defensive line and sped through to score a converted try.

Keynsham hit back with a try after the break before Wotton scored again, Tom Gibbs going over after good work from Lee Barton, Jon Muckle and James Weeks at the breakdown.

Wotton's back three of Tay Jones, Steve Black and Lotinga started to give the hosts nightmares with some great counter-attacking running from deep.

It was from a move from his own half that speedster Irons added the final try with a breathtaking run that left the Keynsham defence powerless to prevent the Cornishman securing his brace. Marlow maintained his perfect record from the tee.

Notable performances from all three debutants, who look sure to add quality to a very tight knit group of players.

Wotton continue their pre-season with the short trip to Minchinhampton on Saturday, 2.30pm.
