Stroud & District Table Tennis League

IN DIVISION One, Phoenix B came up against a strong Frampton team consisting of Bob Murray, Steve Porter and Bill Dawe, who were all unbeaten.

Nick Watts took Porter to five but that was the closest the home side got to a point.

Thornbury also got off to a good start with maximums from Len Vowles and Julian Elsbury and a brace from Ian Maggs.

Paul Bird scored a consolation for Cirencester, although he was a tad unlucky as all his matches went to five.

Vowles and Elsbury wrapped up a 9-1 win in the doubles.

Yate entertained Woodchester B and, although there was a win each for Andy Cox and Will Berkley, maximums from Billy Shilton and Clive Ellison and one from Tony Clarkson gave the visitors a 7-3 victory as Cox and Berkley took the doubles.

Ken Bridle and Mike Hanks scored a point apiece as a two man Woodchester C lost 8-2 at home to Thornbury B in Division Two.

The visitors won the doubles after Gavin Rogers and Mark Attwood had each bagged a brace.

Pessimists also could only field two but a pair for Barry Morgan, a full house for Tim Chancellor and a doubles win gave them a 6-4 victory over young Woodchester ,for whom Emily Philp starred with a win against Morgan.

In Division Three, the experience of Frampton C was too much for Phoenix F as they won 9-1.

John Armshaw scored the point for the visitors but with two for Brian Cullis and maximums for Alan Perratt and Gerry Dupree, the latter also combining to win the doubles, the result was never in doubt.

Cam A entertained Phoenix E with the result all square at five apiece.

Steve Partridge and Paul Stewart each won two and Brian McNeill another for the home side but none could stop Connor Ward, who was unbeaten all night. Lucky Gallage scored a single point before combining with Ward to win the double and secure the draw.

Phoenix I lost 10-0 at home to Cam & Dursley C in Division Four.

The visiting team of Bev Browning, Tony Powell and Ellie Prescott all went unbeaten but not untroubled by an enthusiastic bunch of juniors.

Frampton D had a much closer match, but could not prevent the visiting Randwick C going home with six points as Ralph Perry, George Morris and Chris James each scored two wins.

Glan Watkins bagged a brace for the home side and Dave Hayward another before Watkins combined with Chris Philp to win the doubles.
