Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One

Harrow Hill 1 Dursley Town 1

DURSLEY had goalkeeper Pete Dykes to thank for the assist that led to the late own goal that saw the visitors come from behind to take a point at Harrow Hill.

Trailing to a first-half opener, Town levelled ten minutes from time when Dykes’ punt downfield caused panic and was headed past his own goalkeeper by a defender.

Curtis Mills forced the Harrow Hill stopper into a good save early on, but the hosts gradually asserted their authority and lobbed the exposed Dykes to take the lead.

The visitors improved after the break, with Adam Philp going close, but they had to wait until the final ten minutes before drawing level in unusual fashion.

Dursley: P Dykes; L Jones, S Bailey, R Swift, J Stevenson; J Redbond (A Baker70), M Humphrey, Carl Bailey, J Hill (J Bennett 75); C Mills, A Philp.

Goals: own goal (80).

AFC Phoenix 5 Dursley Town Res 3

ANTONY Nash, Greg Penlington and Jack Knight each gave Dursley the lead – but the visitors were unable to resist a terrific fightback from Gloucester side Phoenix.

Town started the game well and were rewarded after 15 minutes when Knight’s deft flick lobbed the ball into the path of player-boss Nash, who finished with a low shot.

Phoenix levelled on the half-hour, but the visitors responded immediately with Knight and James Dimon allowing Penlington to round off a fine team goal in great style.

The hosts levelled by the interval, but two minutes into the second period Knight was pulled down in the area and he got up to convert the resultant penalty himself.

However, it was one-way traffic thereafter, as Chris Wilkins deflected a shot onto the crossbar, Nash headed the ball off the line and Keith Watson made a string of saves.

Tiring Town were eventually undone for the equaliser 15 minutes from time and, unable to raise themselves again, they conceded twice more as Phoenix triumphed.

Dursley: K Watson; J Dolbear, D French (D Clark 46), C Wilkins, J Bartman; J Dimon (T Clark 55), G Penlington, Antony Nash, J Warner; J Mears, J Knight (L Matthews 80).

Goals: Nash (15), Penlington (30), Knight (pen 47).

Stroud League Division Five

Frampton United 3rds 2 Dursley Town Res 1

DURSLEY are still waiting for their first victory of the season with five matches now played after returning empty-handed from their short trip up the A38 to Frampton.

Following a goalless opening half-hour where Town had some decent spells, the hosts burst into life with two goals in a ten-minute period shortly before the interval.

The visitors halved the deficit 15 minutes from time when substitute Chris Hyam was brought down on the edge of the box and Paul Cook served-up a delicious free-kick.

However, Dursley’s excellent second half ultimately went unrewarded as they were unable to fashion an equaliser, Mike Sims missing with several long-range efforts.

Dursley: L Devries; S Pearson, B Kimber (J Aldridge 75), R Cox, P Cook; A Haddon, A Pearce, M Sims, J Cullimore; A Griffiths (C Hyam 70), L Da Silva (A Humphrey 80).

Goals: Cook (75).

Before the games, the Dursley teams observed one minute's silence following the death of former first-team manager Julian 'Doc' Davies.
