DURSLEY Running Club member Haydn Smith completed this year’s London Marathon having survived an injury scare that might have put paid to completing the 26-mile plus.

In the euphoria of this he entered himself for his first Ultra, the Wye One Way 50, part of the Might Contain Nuts Series.

The winner finished in around nine hours, 10 minutes with Smith finishing 25 minutes in arrears for a fantastic fifth place, a great first outing for an Ultra and the icing on the cake for a great season’s running for Smith.

There was an impressive turnout of Dursley runners at the Cirencester Park 10k.

The metronomic Kevin Jackson was first home for the club, just 30 seconds down on his 2013 time.

Surprisingly Dursley’s other dynamic duo of Alice Lewis and Dave Saunders were both just outside the top three, both finishing fourth in their respective categories, assisting their bids for success in this years County Road Race Series.

Richard Hensman managed to keep in front of Saunders to claim second spot for Dursley.

Lewis was the first Dursley woman home and after her were a stream of finishers, separated only by a matter of minutes.

Kim Bird resumed racing with an impressive 12th position in the senior women’s category with Erica Fuller 10th (FV55).

Results: Kevin Jackson 49th, 41:21 (10th MV50); Richard Hensman 106th, 44:59; Dave Saunders 111th, 45:16 ( 4th MV60); Alice Lewis 146th, 47:19 (4th LV55); Darren Richards 215th, 50:25; Kim Bird 233rd, 52:03 (12th Sen Fem); Erica Fuller 264th, 53:53 (9th LV55); Graham Tudor 307th, 55.53; Mark Western 338th, 58:20 (486 finishers).
