Slimbridge 4 Shepton Mallet 4

A TOPSY-turvy game that saw both sides take the lead twice finished all square after Slimbridge's Dean Turner netted the eighth goal of the afternoon with the last kick to deflate Shepton after their own late rally.

Sean Lawson missed an early chance for the home side before Slimbridge made the breakthrough in the eighth minute. Liam Watson under-hit his attempted knock back to keeper Steve Phillips, which allowed Paul Fahy to nip in and lob Phillips.

Shepton then picked up momentum and, after a couple of near misses, they hit the home side with two goals in a minute just before the half-hour mark.

Ash Willmott netted their equaliser with a deflected shot that saw the ball loop over the head of home keeper Dave Evans, after a good build-up.

From the restart, Shepton quickly regained possession and an even slicker move was rewarded when Willmott fed James Billing. The striker took one touch before drilling an unstoppable shot past Evans from 25 yards to put Shepton ahead for the first time.

Soon after Phillips did well to save a decent shot from Turner before Shepton had a second purple patch of play 10 minutes before the break.

Willmott just failed to convert a fine cross from Billing, then Harry Paice sent in another dangerous cross that Dave Stone headed goalwards, only for Evans to tip the ball away from the foot of his post.

From the resulting corner the keeper then saved Watson's goal-bound header before his best save of the day a minute later came from a powerful Ross McErlain shot.

The last chance of a lively half fell to the home side's Stuart Davis after a defensive slip by Shepton allowed him to sneak in at the far post, only to blaze an angled shot too high.

His team-mate Jamie Martin had more luck three minutes after the resumption when he beat Phillips with a low angled shot from 20 yards to make it 2-2.

Martin put another chance wide from a tight angle a few minutes later.

On the midway point of the second half Slimbridge regained the lead after a misunderstanding between Phillips and Lee Davidson allowed Fahy to capitalise and tap in from close range.

With 15 minutes to go, Martin raced clear from what looked like an offside position and crossed to Fahy, who was denied his hat-trick by a superb stop from Phillips.

This served as a wake-up call for Shepton, who rallied again.

On 83 minutes they levelled the scores again with a Nick Hudson header following a corner and four minutes later they were denied the lead by another fine save from Evans when he tipped another blistering shot from Billing over his crossbar.

The home side's relief was short-lived however as Hudson nodded in his second goal in five minutes from Davidson's far post cross.

Shepton failed to run the clock down as Turner raced clear in the third minute of time added on and slotted in his side's last gasp equaliser.
