THE cross country season started with a clash of events, meaning Dursley took a weakened men’s team for the local Gloucestershire AAA Cross Country League opener at the Cotswold Farm Park near Guiting Power.

The women ran in advance of the men, completing a 6.5 kilometre course.

Not quite managing two teams, the woman still made a solid start in the team event.

The three scoring runners, led in by Kate Browning, placed them 11th overall and seventh in the masters category.

The men ran the same course but over the distance of around 9km.

With other Dursley runners competing in the Talybont Trial and the Gwent League opener, it was very much a scratch team with Dan Anderson and new member Pete Dunn gracing the league with their presence for the first time, Mark Waller recovering from illness and Dave Durden returning to racing after a four-year lull.

Results – Senior Women: Kate Browning 29th, 28:09 (7th FV40); Rebecca Topham 36th, 28:31(9th FV40) Alice Lewis 54th, 30:27 (05th LV55); Erica Fuller 95th, 33:34; Laura Price 96th, 33:37.

Senior Men: Dan Anderson 40th, 34:43; Dave Durden 102nd, 37:26; Mark Waller 166th, 40:31; Pete Dunn 239th, 46:40.

On the other side of the planet, Neil Truelove ran the Mclaren Vale Half Marathon.

Finishing in 01:42:3, Truelove was placed 122nd out of 543 finishers and was fourth in M55-59 category

The club runs from Dursley Rugby Club on Tuesday nights. Meet at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start.
