Slimbridge 1 Brislington 0
SLIMBRIDGE warmed up for their FA Vase trip to Newquay on Saturday with a hard-fought victory against a Brislington side who came to Wisloe Road unbeaten this season.
Rich Thwaite's 71st minute header secured the points for the home side in a game where both sides cancelled each other out for large portions of the action. The win moves the Swans up to fourth in the table with games in hand on all their rivals above them.
The visitors had the best of the early chances, with Ben Crewe's header when left in space on ten minutes the pick of the opportunities for Brislington, while at the other end Sean Lawson went close on two occasions, and Dean Turner saw a shot turned over the bar, but the first half ended without a score.
The Swans made a better start to the second period with Lawson and Paul Fahy combining well up front, while Alex Parrott put in a sterling performance in midfield.
Thwaite's near post header from a corner proved to be the deciding goal and, despite Brislington's efforts, the Swans back line held firm to collect three valuable points.
Slimbridge: Evans, Turl, Brown, Freeman, Rich Thwaite, Ward, Turner, Parrott, Lawson (Hammond 78), Martin, Fahy (Mace 77).
Star man: Alex Parrott.
