Wotton-under-Edge 3 Cardiff & Met C

WOTTON scored three second half goals against a very good Cardiff side to maintain their 100 per cent winning record this season.

The game started fast and Wotton immediately set a high tempo.

Few chances came and went as most of the hockey in the first half was played in the middle of the park.

Half-time came with the score tied at 0-0.

Wotton once again set the tempo in the second half.

However, with nice build-up play from Cardiff, a chance came for them but Wotton goalie George Lampkin make a cracking save off his helmet to keep the game level.

There followed nice play from Andy Edwards running down the wing and attacking into the D to win a short corner for Wotton.

Matthew Fairburn then calmly flicked the ball into the inside of the right post from the top.

Good defensive play from George Eskins, James Cruickshank, Michael Buist and Alistair Hammond kept Wotton ahead.

Once again Wotton were on the attack and Fairburn played a reverse stick ball that came to Harry Willcox on the top of the D and he smacked the ball first time at waist height into the top corner.

The third goal came when Fairburn won yet another short corner. The ball was slipped to Rob Davies on the right and slapped into Darren Pearce to scramble the ball in.

Star men: George Lampkin and George Eskins.

The Marches One

Wotton-under-Edge 2nds 2 Cheltenham D 0

WOTTON were prepared for a feisty affair with an ever-familiar Cheltenham squad, the game proving to be exactly as expected.

From the off, Wotton created chance after chance but were unable to finish off what they had started.

Cheltenham's only threat came from their classy centre back pummelling the ball up to their speedy striker but Leo Murray-Davey was able to keep him in his back pocket.

At half-time Wotton went in level at 0-0, frustrated that they couldn't put away their inferior opposition.

The deadlock was broken as William Cave latched on to a square ball across the D.

His shot was expertly saved by the keeper but the ball fell kindly to Andy Stockley, who kept a cool head and maintained his goal-scoring streak.

Still finding it difficult to put the opposition to bed, something magical occurred.

Sam Willcox picked the ball up just inside his own half, leaving four defenders lying in his wake.

Still not satisfied, he then rounded the keeper and then slotted the ball past the flailing defender on the line.

Even the opposition applauded.

Wotton held on for the remainder of the game due to the hard work rate of the defence and midfield, to find themselves top of the table.
