Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One

Dursley Town 1 Newent Town 1

A DEFLECTED equaliser in the dying moments denied Dursley a first league victory since August as fellow-strugglers Newent claimed a point at the Rec on Saturday.

Chris Dolbear’s side had looked relatively comfortable in holding their one-goal half-time advantage, only for the visitors to level with a deflected free-kick at the death.

The hosts had themselves struck from a dead ball midway through the first period, Sean Bailey firing a free-kick into the corner after seeing an earlier effort saved.

Dolbear said: “It’s obviously really disappointing to draw when we were so close to winning, but that’s the kind of luck you get when you are near the foot of the table.”

GFA (North) Junior Cup Round Two

Stonehouse Town Res 2 Dursley Town Res 1

DURSLEY’S dreadful away form shows little sign of abating as they were knocked out of the County Cup by higher-division opponents Stonehouse at Oldends Lane.

The visitors took the lead midway through the first half when Jake Mears sent a terrific shot against the underside of the bar and Adam Baker followed up to score.

Stonehouse had a goal disallowed for offside ten minutes later, but instead notched their equaliser from the very next phase of play to make it level at the interval.

The hosts went ahead with a fantastic shot into the top corner with 20 minutes left and Dursley lacked the composure in possession to salvage anything late on.
