DURSLEY FIRST XV v OLD COLSTONIANS

Dursley welcomed newly promoted Old Colstonians who were currently laying bottom of the league. Dursley knew that they needed a strong performance to keep hopes alive of challenging for promotion back into Gloucester Premier.

Dursley opened the scoring after 5 minutes from a strong break by flanker Ollie Steel and Number 8 Jake Martin passed along the back line for centre Damien Cummings to touch down and scrum half Grant Boucher added the conversion 7-0. 10 minutes on strong scrummaging by the Dursley front five of Ash Young, Nick Eames, Ty Chappell, Scott Udal and Jack Western set the platform for Dursley's second try from a popped ball to fly half James Sheldon with Boucher adding the conversion 14-0. Old Colstonians narrowed the gap from a simple penalty following a yellow card for Western 14-3. With 10 minutes left in the half Dursley added try number three from a flowing backs move and a great line from full back Tom Broomfield to score and Boucher adding the conversion 21-3. Dursley continued to pound the Old Colstonians defence and winger Brad Winchle did great work to turnover ball. With the half drawing to a close Dursley extending their lead further following some strong tackling by front row replacement Josh Case and a free kick passed along the line for centre A J Caddick to score and Boucher convert bring the half time score to 28-3.

Dursley started the second half strongly with good tackling from Winchle, Martin and Lea and hard yards by flanker Simon Camm. 15 minutes in Dursley increased their lead from a break away by Winchle from inside his own half and beating two defenders to score under the posts giving Boucher a simple conversion 35-3. With 15 minutes left to play Dursley's sixth try came from replacement Harry Lea who chased up and beat several defenders to a hack through with Boucher converting 42-3. Old Colstonians showed spirit and were eventually rewarded with a converted try closing the gap to 42-10. In the closing minutes Dursley continued to show good pace and pressure with Lea and replacement Jake Ward putting Caddick through for another converted try 49-10.

This excellent result leaves Dursley lying fifth in the league only three points behind second spot and their sights firmly set on promotion as the league enters its second half. Saturday 20th December sees the team away at Old Richians and all support would be gratefully appreciated.
