FORMER Forest Green boss David Hockaday is the bookies choice to land the Coventry City job after the Sky Blues sacked boss Steve Pressley today.

Hockaday only moved to the Ricoh Arena earlier this month as professional development coach, and has been put in caretaker charge of the League One relegation strugglers along with assistant boss Neil MacFarlane.

The Sky Blues were dragged into the relegation zone after looking on course for a morale-boosting 2-2 draw at high-flying Sheffield United.

On-loan Forest Green left-back Chris Stokes made his debut at Bramall Lane and played for 72 minutes before going off with cramp with Coventry 2-0 up at the time.

Chief executive Steve Waggott said: “This has been a very difficult decision from a personal and professional point of view, and we would like to place on record our thanks to Steven for his efforts over the last two years.

“But results over recent weeks and months, and our precarious position in the league table, means that a change of direction at first team level is needed.

“Neil MacFarlane and Dave Hockaday have been placed in temporary charge.”
