KATE Browning and Mouse Clutterbuck were Dursley Running Club’s representatives in the Pewsy Terminator 11.6 mile Off Roader last Sunday and, as the name suggests, the course was very challenging with lots of mud, hills and two river crossings to negotiate.

Browning was third lady home in one hour 37.38mins, which was a course best. She was first home for Dursley, with Clutterbuck behind finishing in one hour 49.03mins.

Meanwhile, Rich Shirley was at the 9Bar Chilly Duathlon held on and around the Castle Coombe motor racing circult. Shirley was using the race as preparation for his trip to the European Championships later this year and was pleased to finish 29th in some trying conditions, completing the course in a total time of 51.26mins.

He finished the first 3.2km run in 11.43mins, cycled the 15km middle section in 25.02mins and finished the race with a second run over 3.2kms in 12.27mins.

Also last Sunday, another pair of Dursley Athletes were on the start line of the Bourton 10K.

Neil Parry placed 117th in a time of 40.28mins. This was some way off his course best but Parry had felt going into the race that he would struggle to get under forty minutes and will be pleased to have blown the cobwebs away as part of his London Marathon preparations.

Alice Lewis was the third FV55 finisher, and 253rd overall, in a time of 46.17mins, just 19 seconds off her personal best.

Saturday saw Dursley Running Club members giving their children a real treat, an early morning start at Chipping Sodbury Parkrun.

The Park Run events encourage runners of all abilities to try their hand at the 5K distance.

Five Dursley Running Club members took part, with Mark Brasier and David Durden keeping each other close to the sharp end of the race.

Rebecca Topham joined the ‘dog runners’ and Margaret Johnson both ran her dog and kept an eye on her daughter Aoife Johnson around the course.

Gillian Durden dipped her toe into an organised event with half an eye on a 10K later in the season and managed a top ten age category finish.

Those dragged along for their treat included Barry Topham, who provided the bait for his son George.

Behind them Cormac Johnson and James Durden tried to hold it all together after a rather too brisk start, with Johnson pulling away in a sprint finish.

Aoife Johnson put in a fine effort, and did really well. Rebecca Durden also had a fine run but unfortunately did not get her barcode read, so all her considerable effort went unrecorded. The event was won in a time of 17.03mins by Rob Abraham.

On the same day in Hampshire, Mike Compton represented Dursley at the Basingstoke Parkrun he finished ninth with a time of 19.24mins.

Placings and times have now been confirmed for the Gloucester AAA Cross Country League Final Event as well as the overall team and age category standings.
