Rockhampton 52-1 beat Frenchay 51 ao by nine wickets
ROCKHAMPTON’S topsy-turvy season has seen them go back on top of the Glos/Wilts division of the West of England Premier League.
Rockhampton had an emphatic victory over Frenchay on Saturday and, with just two fixtures remaining, they are in pole position for the title.
Incredibly, Saturday’s match was all over by 3.20pm as Jack Spence won the toss and inserted Frenchay into bat.
Within 30 overs, Frenchay were  blown away for just 51.
The new ball was given to Chris Willoughby (1-12) and Jamie Wakefield (2-19) as they both continued their impressive debut seasons with The Rams in reducing Frenchay to 4-2 early on.
It was the surprise introduction of Matt Tyler into the attack that proved crucial as he claimed two big wickets in a three over spell of 2-6 which included dismissing their overseas batsmen for a second ball duck.
Sam Nichols bowled well from the other end and was able to mop up the tail in a blistering spell of 4-11 as 29-2 became 51 all out, with Chris Perry (1-1) claiming the other wicket. Again, Rockhampton’s bowling and fielding was excellent which has been a familiar story throughout the season.
The Rams response was ruthless with Jamie Wakefield taking the attack to the bowlers, finishing on 25 not out from 22 balls, including four boundaries.
Will Tyler (nine) was the only wicket to fall, leaving 17-year-old James Dryden to finish on an unbeaten eight and see Rockhampton to their victory target in just 9.3 overs.
That amassed 21 league points in the process which meant that, after defeat for title rivals Chippenham, Rockhampton are eight points clear of the second-placed side with the two sides facing each other this Saturday with a 12.30pm start at Chippenham.
