ROVERS put their opening day disappointment behind them to produce a dominant performance at Yeovil on Saturday and pick up our first win of the season.

We went into the game knowing that the Glovers had also not made the best of starts, having lost their first fixture too, and were ravaged by injuries, so it was important to capitalise.

The players were up for the challenge from the start and looked comfortable in the 3-5-2 formation Clarke deployed.

He also showed again that he is not afraid to make big decisions as he dropped Mildenhall and instead put on-loan goalkeeper Aaron Chapman straight into the action.

Whereas a week ago the team looked out of sorts against Northampton, they were now determined and eager to show they are far better than that display suggested.

The only disappointment was that despite our superiority, we could not find a goal as their goalkeeper turned in a man of the match performance.

It looked like the game was heading towards a goalless draw until the sending off of one of their players in the second half allowed us to make the numerical advantage count.

The Pirates continued to turn the screw and got their reward in the 88th minute as Harrison thundered in a blistering shot from the edge of the penalty area, sparking jubilant scenes among the 2,000 Gasheads.

It was a just reward for an excellent performance which saw Rovers amass 16 shots, eight of which were on target, compared to the Glovers’ four shots, with just one on target.

They more than matched their opponents, suggesting that we can be a force this season.

Rovers made it two out of two on Tuesday night with another excellent 1-0 win at Luton Town.

Sinclair got the all important goal deep into injury time after another impressive team performance, highlighting the commitment and desire of the players to keep going until the final whistle.

We have an excellent chance to secure our first home victory of the season on Saturday and continue the winning sequence as Barnet visit the Memorial Stadium.
