CITY picked up their first points of the season last week with a thrilling game at Ashton Gate against Leeds United and a solid performance away at Middlesbrough.

We had been in deep trouble last Wednesday night against Leeds having gone 2-0 down. Hamer was adjudged to have brought down Antenucci in the first half and the Italian forward got up to convert the resultant spot-kick.

Early in the second half we got hit on the counter-attack and former City loan player Chris Wood scored Leeds’ second.

City struggled to get back into the game until the last 10 minutes or so when substitutes Agard, Reid and Burns began to make a telling difference.

The former scored City’s first in the 89th minute after a lovely slide-rule pass from Bristolian, Reid. Then, deep into the fifth minute of added time Pack’s header from a Reid corner was parried by the ‘keeper and Flint was on hand to finish from close-range to make it 2-2.

Three days later, City made their longest journey of the season to the Riverside, Middlesbrough. We were 5-1 to win with the bookies – a bet I regret not taking as we won 1-0.

Clearly buoyed by the result in midweek City got off to a cracking start. Again, good work from Reid and then Wilbraham set-up Bryan in the box in the eighth minute.

City’s left wing-back guided the ball beautifully with his ‘weaker’ right foot into the top corner of the net. It proved to be the only goal of the game in what was a well-earned first win of the season.

I do feel we’ve been slightly unlucky so far this season and hopefully more points will now follow. Boro are one of the favourites to win promotion this season and despite not having a lot of possession we created the better chances and kept the home side quiet.

This Saturday City host Burnley at Ashton Gate (3pm). The Lancashire club are also one of the favourites for promotion having plied their trade in the Premier League last season. Striker Andre Gray is likely to feature for Burnley having decided to join the Clarets instead of City last week.
