FOREST Green cup hero Elliott Frear will be live on BBC Two’s FA Cup second round draw programme, tonight (7pm).

Frear, who scored Rovers' last-gasp winner at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday was delighted to see his side move just 90 minutes from a potential clash against a Premier League outfit.

He said: “It was a big moment for me and the team and we’re happy to get in the second round.

"I scored my first professional goal in the FA Cup so I have a soft spot for the cup, and I’m buzzing to get the winner.

“Last week the gaffer put me on the right side and to be fair I missed a sitter. Carts [Darren Carter] has put me in and I’ve missed a one-on-one.

“It was a similar situation. The gaffer said to me ‘go and put one top bins’, and I did.

“I’ve not played many games out on the right and if I’m honest I don’t feel that comfortable out there. But the more times I play out there the more comfortable I get. If I come in on my left-foot and shoot then you get what happened today.”

AFC Wimbledon were tough opponents, and they dominated for much of the tie, but Frear was pleased that a solid defensive performance worked, and that the team could compete against a side who play a level above.

“They’re a decent League Two side and we expected them being at home that they were going to put pressure on us,” he added.

“We accepted that and accepted we were going to hopefully get one more chance to try and win it and luckily we did.

“We’ve been saying all week that it would be a good benchmark for us to see teams in that league and hopefully see what we’re going to come up against next year.

“I think we more than matched them at times and I thought being honest we looked the better side being the away side.

“The way we defended as a team was different class. Obviously if we get promoted and bring that into next year we should be alright.”

Rovers are ball 36 in the draw and ties will be played across the weekend of December 4-7.

There’s no time to still be celebrating Saturday’s win. The team returned to the training ground on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s league trip to Welling United.

Frear’s hoping the squad approach the match at Park View Road with the right mentality after the weekend’s win, and understands the challenge that Welling will offer.

“It is going to be a tough game. It always is there. It was nice today to be the underdog for once and not to have to go into a game and be expected to win,” he continued.

“Tuesday is going to be roles reversed and we’re going to be the favourites. Hopefully we can get the win that will keep us top.”
