THE SECOND of November saw plenty of wind and rain, ideal for a race such as the Sodbury Slog.

The Sunday race starts with a bugle call and two minutes silence before the runners head through a significant amount of mud up and down the Cotswold escarpment, as well as several notorious sections of ice-cold streams to negotiate.

The race has not attracted a huge following from the Dursley Running Club despite its nationwide attraction.

This year Carolyn Thraves was Dursley Running Club's representative, ironically running to raise money for the Safe Drinking Water charity FRANK Water, as she ploughed through the cold muddy streams the race is famed for. She declared she “enjoyed” the run, finishing 34th senior woman in a time of one hour 51.23mins.

On the same day, the second instalment of the Gwent Cross Country League took place at Llandaff Fields in Cardiff.

Managing to start and finish before the rain came, Kevin Jackson was 294th and Roly was 457th in a field of just under five hundred runners.

The day before saw very wet and windy conditions for the park runners and as a result only four hardy souls were out form Dursley Running Club.

At Chipping Sodbury, Hannah Darton posted the clubs fastest Parkrun time of the weekend with a 25.33mins to place first SW30.

Sarah Bradbury, Claire Searle and Deborah McFarlane made it to Kingsway.

Bradbury was first home for the club and was seconds SW30 with Searle fourth SW50.

After a few detours it is doubtful whether Mcfarlane’s time will be 'official' and it was some way off her personal best from the previous week.

Antony Ball took a Saturday off from park running to complete the Stanford Hall Wolf Run in Leicestershire.

As with all Wolfruns, no time no placing just the satisfaction of getting to the end!
