CITY and Bolton Wanderers played out a dour 0-0 draw at the Macron Stadium on Saturday – a result which did little for either teams prospects of moving away from the bottom end of the Championship table.

On paper this looked like a winnable game for us as Bolton are in deep trouble on and off the pitch.

Off it, Wanderers are currently in debt to the tune of approximately £180 million with owner Edwin Davies desperately seeking a buyer for the club.

As a result manager Neil Lennon has been hamstrung in the transfer market and his side have won just one league game all season.

Unfortunately despite having the better of the first half, City weren’t really at the races all match and we could in fact consider ourselves lucky to come away with a point in the end after Fielding saved a second half Ameobi penalty.

The home side also spurned a couple of very good opportunities later on in the game, but City held out and on reflection it’s a better point for us than it is for them.

We can also take the positive of keeping a fourth clean sheet in six matches.

Earlier in the season, our defence was far too leaky but the introduction of Baker and Bennett and the shifting of Williams to wing-back has tightened things up.

Thankfully Baker is here on loan for the rest of the season but, with Bennett due to go back to parent club Norwich in January, I’d already be enquiring as to whether we can keep him longer – perhaps even on a permanent basis.

Things have been looking a bit better for City of late and I am confident that after the international break we can build on this recent upturn in form.

From what I’ve seen so far, I’m pretty confident over the course of the season we will prove to be better than at least a few clubs in this league, which will be enough to keep us up.

It would of course be nice to put a comfortable distance between ourselves and the dropzone sooner rather than later!
