GLOUCESTERSHIRE’S new overseas signing Andrew Tye has been named in the KFC Big Bash League team of the year after a brilliant series with Perth Scorchers.

The Scorchers lost to Melbourne Stars in the semi-finals of the competition last weekend but fast bowler Tye has impressed enough to get into the all-star side, even beating teammate and Gloucestershire’s captain Michael Klinger to the honour.

Tye finished with the fourth most wickets in the BBL with 13 dismissals from nine games at an average of 18 runs per dismissal.

His best bowling figures were 3-22, while he was economical too, going for 7.05 runs an over.

And the Gloucestershire cricket public will be relishing seeing the new man when the season opens as the 29-year-old was last week called up to the Australia T20 squad for the first time.

Klinger scored 285 runs in the Big Bash League campaign but he missed out where Tye succeeded.

The Scorchers failed to qualify for the Big Bash League BIG Final for the first time after losing by seven wickets to the Stars at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Back in Bristol, meanwhile, work has started on installing six new floodlights at the County Ground.

Having been granted planning permission in 2015, the work will be completed by the start of the new season.

Following development in recent years at the County Ground, the floodlights are another step towards creating one of the finest sports grounds in the South West that the region can be proud of, especially Gloucestershire cricket members, supporters and playing staff.

The immediate benefit of the floodlights will be noticed on Friday May 20 when Gloucestershire host Sussex in the first home NatWest T20 Blast match of the season. Friday night matches will also begin at the later time of 6.30pm, compared to a 5.30pm start time in 2015.

Chief executive Will Brown said “The last week has been a really exciting time for us. After months of planning it’s great to see holes being dug and the building work really starting.”
