CITY are still in need of one more point from their final three games to assure Championship survival.

But, in reality, being nine points clear of MK Dons, we are all but mathematically safe from relegation.

In the past week, City have twice thrown away points from leading positions – against Brentford and Derby County.

On Saturday, City travelled to Griffin Park to face in-form Brentford. The Bees had the better of the opening exchanges but City took the lead on the stroke of half-time with a moment of inspiration from Lee Tomlin as he curled the ball into the bottom corner of the goal from the edge of the area.

On loan from Bournemouth, the 27-year-old has been a big reason for City’s turnaround in recent weeks and he would make a great permanent addition to City’s squad this summer.

The second-half was fairly even but the home side definitely created the better chances and City had to rely on keeper O’Donnell to make some fine saves. But there’s nothing O’Donnell could have done about the Bees 90th minute equaliser, as Hogan headed in from close-range.

Although it was disappointing to concede so late, a point away from home is always a respectable result.

On Tuesday night, City and Derby played out a topsy-turvy game at Ashton Gate. After the visitors took the lead through Russell City hit back twice just before half-time through Kodjia and Reid. For Kodjia, it was his 17th goal of the season and Reid’s second in as many games at Ashton Gate.

But City have displayed in recent weeks that we still haven’t shaken off having a soft underbelly in defence and conceded twice within 12 minutes of the restart to go behind. Bryson scored the equaliser before Tom Ince (son of Paul) scored the winner for the Rams.

Under Lee Johnson we have only kept two clean sheets and if we are to really push on next season then that will have to improve. Teams have been allowed to create far too many chances against us in the past few games. On the positive we have of course been scoring more goals.

On Saturday City travel to Ewood Park to face Paul Lambert’s Blackburn Rovers (3pm).
