Gloucestershire 118-108 City & County of Bristol

GLOUESTERSHIRE retained the Punchard Cup win a narrow 10 shot win 118-108 over City & County of Bristol at Henleaze Bowls Club.

They were pushed all the way with the side winning five rinks however the rink of Alan Cook, Bob Banks, Keith Farraday and Roger Newman (all Wotton) saw the gap close as they had the misfortune to suffer a hefty defeat 29-7 to Dennis Overton.

At the other end of the scale John Hunt, Mike Wainwright, Charles Chapman in his first outing and Clive Bennett (all Moreton) secured the highest winning rink when up Michael Collins they romped home to win 25-10.

The rink skipped by Dave Hopkins (Pineholt) were well in command leading 16-7 before the deficit was cut to two shots. A five putting back in the driving seat and they went onto beat John Wood 25-18.

The Henleaze quartet with Keith Pike as skip went ahead against Derrick Robertson 11-5 at halfway before losing the lead. A purple patch of 11 shots saw them stride away and go onto win 23-18.

Geoff Williams (Dursley) in charge against Keith Smith saw the rink open up an 18-7 lead before dropping 10 shots to narrowly win by just two 19-17.

The fifth winning rink came the way of Roger Harrison (Pineholt) who up against Doug Johnson just led by one shot after 10 ends and by the 19th end were level at 16-16. Three shots over the last two ends gave them a 19-16 victory.
