Middle England League

Gloucestershire Women (13pts) 120 Oxfordshire Women 107 (4pts)

GLOUCESTERSHIRE women, for the first time in a couple of seasons, began their Middle England League campaign in gaining revenge over Oxfordshire at Witney Bowling Club, winning by 13 shots.

The best came from Sally Rolls, Elaine Lewis, Veronica Richie and Di Wilson who, up against W.Cross (skip and her team), went from being 10-7 ahead at halfway to pile up the shots over the next eight ends to move into a 26-7 lead.

Their opponents cut that back in the final run in as they won 26-12.

Fran Stockford, Maddie Hale, Lin Challenger and Julia Stannard, against C. Gallety’s team, gained a 7-4 advantage at the mid-point before powering away to open up a 20-12 lead before winning 24-13.

Val Ayres, Val Smith, Sue Osbourne, and Joy Sheward were against K.Hawes and strode into a 12-1 lead and never looked back.

By halfway, they led 14-8 and ended up with a 21-15 win.

Jenny Westlake, Myra Savage, Janet Lee-Cooper and Jackie Ind picked up a fourth winning rink when they started out by opening up a 12-4 lead over S.Berry.

The gap was closed to four shot late on before they went onto win 19-13.

Joyce Ferson, Pam Ayres, Ann Boaden and Ann Jones faced an uphill struggle when they found themselves 13-4 behind to C. Peason.

The difference after 18 ends was 14 shots before a late rally saw them gain six shots to go down 25-17.

Val Osmond, Pat Baker, Pat Ward-Davies and Val Major slipped to the heaviest defeat when up against C. Campion they trailed 12-7 at halfway and went onto lose 29-13.
