Slimbridge Skittles

WEEK six of the Slimbridge Summer Skittle League saw new leaders after the top two met and newcomers, the Unknowns, recorded a 38-pin victory to replace their opponents, the Geriatrics, in the top spot.

The first four legs were a tight affair with scores level, however a 13-spare from Peter Wood in the fifth leg saw the Unknowns open up a nine-pin advantage.

It was the sixth leg that saw the Unknowns take the half, hitting a score of forty, in which Peter Wood hit a ten-spare, his second of the night, whilst Nathan Vines followed this with a 14-spare as they extend their lead by 11-pins.

The final leg of the half saw the Geriatrics pull back a solitary pin to trail by 12-pins.

The second half saw the eventual winners lead from start to finish, initially opening up a solitary pin lead, they extended their advantage in the fourth leg as Jamie Cullimore hit a 14-spare to lead by 21-pins.

Despite Nigel Winfield hitting sixty for the Geriatrics, they were unable to reduce the deficit; Steve Collard scoring 67 for the Unknowns as they won the half by 26-pins to take maximum points.

Snorts FC moved in to second spot as they took maximum points in a sixty-pin victory over The Dons.

A 38-pin first half advantage set Snorts FC for the win with Steve Brown finishing with an 11-spare in his total of seventy for the winners.

The Dons were unable to respond to this and trailed at the end of the first leg.

The second half saw Mark Stamp start with a ten-spare for The Dons, however they trailed by two-pins.

Anthony Niblett matched Stamps’ spare in the second leg, however Snorts FC responded through Colin Clutterbuck hitting a 15-spare to see the winners open up a 12-pin advantage over their opponents.

Despite Darren Noble scoring 58 for The Dons, they were again unable claw back the deficit, eventually losing the half by 22-pins.

The Bowmen picked up their second victory for the season but remain just off the bottom after an 18-pin victory over the Cambridge Crew.

The Cambridge Crew looked set for a comfortable victory as they opened up a ten-pin lead going into the sixth leg.

A 12-spare from Gloria Cross put the Bowmen back into contention as they trailed by three pins entering the final; two legs.

However the Crew held there nerve winning the half by two pins.

The second half saw the Bowmen open up a nine-pin advantage after two legs which they increased to 13-pins after four legs.

Despite Roby Wycthard hitting sixty for the Cambridge Crew, they were unable to claw back the deficit they were facing, Alan Dimery hitting a sixth leg 16-spare in his total of 64 to extend their margin of victory to twenty pins to win the game by four pins.
