BOBBY REID has penned a new two-year contract at Ashton Gate, with a further year option.

Reid was poised to be out of contract this summer until the club triggered a year extension clause in his contract back in April.

Since then, head coach Lee Johnson has engaged in discussions with the exciting midfielder, 23, about brand new terms, which have come to fruition today.

Reid is now committed to the club until the summer of 2018, with a further year option after that.

The Bristolian said: “I’m delighted. This club is going places and I want to be part of that. You only have to look at the stadium; the place has been transformed and hopefully we have a big season ahead of us.”

Reid made 30 appearances last season, with the majority of his starts coming after Johnson had taken charge in February.

Johnson also signed Reid on loan when head coach at Oldham Athletic in 2013, and he is clearly a big fan of the midfielder who has been rewarded with a new deal.

Johnson said: “I’m delighted Bobby has signed for another two years. I have huge belief in him as a player and believe he has the potential to play as high as he wants.

“He’s got a great attitude and he’ll have a big part to play in what we hope will be a successful campaign ahead.”
