NEW Forest Green assistant manager Scott Lindsey insists there will be no 'good cop, bad cop' routine alongside boss Mark Cooper.

Lindsey,44, spent the past two years as Swindon Town’s under 18 manager and was responsible for ensuring Cooper’s football philosophy filtered down to the younger professionals, who were progressing from the academy to first team football.

“We see things very similar – we agree on lots of things, but there will be times when I think it’s important for Mark to stamp his authority down, but no real good cop, bad cop and hopefully we will get the best out of the players.”

And being reunited with Cooper was simply a no-brainer for the former Gillingham midfielder.

He added: “Mark and myself had spoke over a period of time and I think the idea was that I would always probably come and work with him - and that was the right decision in my mind - and I’m at a football club with a real direction - and it was a no-brainer.”

Unsurprisingly the bookies’ favourites, Lindsey is stoked at the opportunity to help try and steer Rovers into the Football League.

He added: “We are at a football club that has a clear plan and wants to do well - and be successful, so it’s exciting times.

“What Forest Green achieved last year was fantastic and quality is already at the club, but we feel we have strengthened that - and we hope to add a few more faces before the start of the season.”

Lindsey boasts a raft of experience as first team coach and caretaker manager at Lincoln City in League Two and as an assistant manager in the Conference at Tamworth.

He added: “I’m an enthusiastic, hardworking - usually first in the morning and last to leave – one of them. I try to study and workout how we can be better all the time - and I'm always looking to improve myself as well.”

Lindsey was delighted with the response from the squad on the first day of pre-season training at Rovers’ Cirencester training base in monsoon-like conditions.

He said: “Usually you would experience cooking hot sun and have the lads gasping for water, but the heavens opened and it was a bit torrential at times, but it was a good first session with a lot of work with the balls, because we have two days of fitness testing, so we didn’t want to push the boys too hard, so we have to be mindful of that and we didn’t want to hamper the fitness test results.”

Rovers are set for a more free-flowing style next season and Lindsey was keen to work with the football on the opening day.

“We like to make sure the boys have a lot of contact time with the football as that’s the way we want to play and dominate possession, so in order for us to do that they have to be comfortable with the ball to do that.”
