Gloucestershire County League Division One

Redmarley 110 ao lost to Cam 186 ao by 76 runs

CAM made it three wins from four as they beat fellow relegation threatened club Redmarley by 76 runs to significantly boost their chances of survival.

With poor weather looming over most of the county, Cam made the trip to Redmarley with little hope of much cricket being played.

Light drizzle frustrated the players as the start was delayed until the rain had passed.

A 37 over game began with Cam batting first.

Redmarley found an early wicket as Pete Hall was given out caught behind, despite the ball seeming to deflect off pad rather than bat.

Jake Dolbear and Stuart Newman came together and the runs flowed as the pair scored at more than six an over in a partnership worth 75.

Both men found the boundary with regularity before Dolbear was caught for 49.

Newman found further support from Ben Holloway as they pushed the score onto 134 before both batsmen fell in quick succession, Newman for 59 and Holloway for 17.

Cam continued to lose wickets as they went in search of quick runs.

Only Adam Holloway and Ryan Western passed double figures as the innings finished on 186, a decent total but one that felt slightly disappointing given Cam’s strong start.

Redmarley’s run chase began slowly with Cam opening bowlers George Dolling and Ali Longden looking to limit the scoring and put the home side on the back foot.

Longden claimed the first wicket as he clean bowled Chalkley with an outswinging delivery.

Dolling then trapped Lawrence LBW before he ended an attritional partnership by dismissing Aston LBW with the last ball of his spell.

Cam’s opening bowlers conceded just 39 runs between them from 15 overs as some tight lines saw Redmarley’s required rate increase significantly.

Ryan Western and Hall were introduced to the attack and continued to collect wickets.

Western claimed the wicket of Gerken for 19 as he was held at the second attempt by Newman at first slip before Sergeant was bowled by Hall as he advanced down the track.

Western continued his menacing spell as he bowled Gummer for a duck before a partnership between Alley (24) and Hudd (18) saw Redmarley progress past the hundred mark.

Ben Holloway was brought on to bowl and soon broke the partnership as he had Hudd stumped by Dolbear before collecting the next wicket thanks to a catch in the deep by Tom Deakin.

Cam’s victory was complete soon after as Western bowled Alley, before having last man Lane caught by Adam Holloway to see Cam wrap up a comprehensive 76 run victory.

Cam now travel to Westbury-on-Severn on Saturday knowing that their quest for survival is in their own hands going into the final two games of the season.
