AUGUST has been a busy month to date of Dursley Running Club. Ray Williams and Andy Kilby were the most recent competitors at the Cotswold Classic Triathlon.

With another 610 triathletes, they braved some varying conditions to complete the 113 kilometre course.

Both did well in their age categories but Kilby produced a podium finish to place third in the 60-64 age category, with Williams seventh in his category and an impressive 206th overall.

At the Westonbirt House 10K, a strong showing from Dursley saw Mike Crompton continuing his excellent years running with a seventh place overall in 37.22mins.

Joe Ball was first male junior in 43:03mins, with Julie Froggatt, Steve Barnes, Pete Brown and Annette Heylings all achieving top ten finishes.

The following weekend saw the latest edition of the Gloucester Marathon and, despite starting at 9am, the runners were subjected to high temperatures that were not conducive to fast marathon times.

Gloucester residents helped out spraying runners with water as they passed.

The conditions made Stuart Gwilliam’s first ever race even more remarkable, completing the course in three hours 21mins placing 42nd overall and tenth MV4.

Just ten places behind him, Emma Denton produced another good marathon, placing fourth senior woman and 52nd overall.

Jonathon Tudor and Damian Lai both achieved personal bests.

Wednesday August 10 saw the Bugatti 10K run as part of the Glos AAA Road Race Series with Dave Saunders and Alice Lewis picking up valuable points in their categories.

Saunders was first MV65 (48:19mins) and Lewis second FV55 (48:51mins) with Kris Rymer third in for the club in 52:03mins and Annette Heylings placing fourth LV60 in one hour 02:25mins.

The third event in the DRC club handicap series took place on August 9.

After three races, the series is led by Simon Jones with Charlotte Palmer and Sam Martin sitting in second and third positions.
