TOM Broomfield has started work as the new head coach of Dursley RFC this season.

Broomfield has taken over the reins at the Gloucester One outfit from Alan Evans and, after leading them to a comfortable 44-17 Gloucester Cup win on Saturday at Ashley Down and putting the squad through their paces over the summer, the new coach will look for another win when Dursley travel again to Bristol on Saturday to take on Southmead in their opening league game of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Jack Robson will captain and lead Dursley first team’s 2016-17 campaign for promotion following them narrowly missing out last season by a point.

Robson replaces big back row Scott Udal who has moved to South Africa.

Dursley seconds will be captained once again by Stuart Newman and the third team by Tom Lee.

Dursley Ladies captain for 2016/17 will be Katie Thomson.

And Dursley have handed out the awards for a good 2015/16 season.

At Dursley’s annual awards evening and fundraising ball, they raised an amazing £12,000 towards the redevelopment of the club and the changing rooms which are underway.

The senior team men’s sides won all three Stroud Combination Cups for the first time in the club’s history.

The club’s most improved player in the senior men’s team went to Silas Winterbottom, with theStan Baldwin Nomad third Team Player of the Year going to Ross Reeves.

The Mark Ackerman second Team Player of the Year trophy went to Sam Pinker, with the First Team Player Tankard awarded to Jack Rowe.

The Keith Harding Player’s Player of the Year was won by Jack Pinker, with the Mini andYouth ‘Rifina’ Cup for services to M&Y Rugby being awarded to Chas Maloney.

On the Dursley ladies rugby front, the team’s Player’s Player of the year was Katie Thomson.

And there was a fitting goodbye to on of Dursley’s great characters when the Jack Heaven Cup for Services to Senior (Men’s) Rugby was given to Scott Udal, last season’s captain, before he left for South Africa.

Kirsty Merchant, the club’s physio, was also recognised for her services.

The Jack Heaven Cup for services to Junior (M&Y) Rugby was Paul Winterbottom.
