Sharpness 3 Bredon 2

SHARPNESS welcomed a much changed Bredon side to Hamfields hoping to improve on a poor result against Taverners last weekend.

Bredon arrived on the back of a great result against high flying Tuffley Rovers.

Sharpness started the brighter with some excellent one touch football from midfield trio Craig Nodes, Brad Hewer and Tom Frankham leaving the Bredon midfield wanting.

On ten minutes, a break down the right hand side by Harry Aldridge led to a quick exchange of passes.

It left Brad Hewer, unmarked in the box, to fire left footed into the bottom corner to give Sharpness a well deserved lead.

It continued to be a slightly one-sided affair but Bredon were a strong, well organised side who did look very dangerous on the break.

On the half hour, Bredon got a goal back from a quick break from defence and a great finish from the tricky Bredon midfielder which made it 1-1 at half time.

The second half started with Bredon on the offensive having gained confidence from their equalising goal and they tested the Sharpness defence but Nathan Freeman and Ben Gibbs were outstanding and seemed to win everything in the air.

On the hour, Gibbs found himself in the box after a corner was semi cleared and some clever trickery drew a Bredon defender into committing a foul and Jack Higgs smashed the penalty into the top corner.

This deflated Bredon and ten minutes later, Harry Aldridge made a low cross and an assist from Higgs allowed Dan Turner to turn the ball home from two yards.

At 3-1 with twenty minutes left, the game changed as an exchange between Tom Frankham and the referee resulted in a red card and Bredon scoring to make it 3-2.

It changed the game and it suddenly Bredon attacked in numbers.

The Sharpness strength and fitness levels were tested to the limits.

The game took another turn when a Bredon player was injured in the box and having used all three subs, numbers were even again as Sharpness held out for the three points.
