Gloucester One League

Dursley 57 Tewkesbury 14

DURSLEY welcomed Tewkesbury with hopes of improving their league position and they were not disappointed. Dursley went on a points spree in dry conditions.

From the kick off, winger Brad Winchle made a break before being bundled into touch. Dursley set their stall at the line-out and set a driving maul towards the line.

Scrum half Sam Pinker spun the ball to fly half Tom Broomfield, then out to inside centre Sam Casseldine who cut a lethal line to score with full back Olly Halford adding the extras.

Dursley continued to dominate the line-out with second row Jack Western putting his aerial skills to good use. Dursley’s second try was started with hard yards from flanker Josh Bailey and safe hands in the back line from Broomfield and centre Duncan Goodison to put captain Jack Robson through.

Another well placed long distance kick from Halford put Dursley back in the Tewkesbury 22 and the forwards pounced for prop Ty Chappell to score with Halford adding the extras to make it 17-0.

And, with only 26 minutes gone, Dursley scored their bonus point try following another storming forward drive with Robson peeling off the back, supported by Chappell, who made an excellent off load for number eight Tim Wilcox to beat the last man and score the converted try.

Tewkesbury's back line made their mark and scored a converted try to close the gap 26-7. The closing minutes of the half saw the Dursley pack dominate at the scrum consistently pushing Tewkesbury off the ball and gaining yards

Their efforts were rewarded with Wilcox coming off the back of the scrum to score in the corner for a handsome 31-7 Dursley lead.

Tewkesbury came out firing and reduced the deficit in the opening minutes with a converted try.

Good work at the breakdown by front row Joe Cowley and Josh Case secured ball which Halford cleverly kicked over the top of the Tewkesbury defence for winger Liam Smith to collect and score.

The Dursley front five continued to dominate the scrum winning not only their own ball but virtually every Tewkesbury ball too. Jake Martin, Wilcox and Robson continued to produce some penetrating runs with Wilcox’s hand off technique worthy of mention.

A strong carry by Camm put Dursley on the front foot and the ball was passed through the back line from one side of the pitch to the other for Winchle to score in the corner.

By now, Dursley were 43-14 up. With ten minutes left, Bailey added another try which Halford converted to top the half-century mark.

A couple of minutes later, from a Tewkesbury line-out on the Dursley 22, Wilcox stole the ball at the back, broke tackles and ran the length of pitch under the posts to round things off at 57-14.

The result puts Dursley second in the league behind unbeaten Spartans and equal on points with Widden and Gloucester Old Boys. There is no game on Saturday but the team are looking forward to taking on old adversaries Ashley Down away on Saturday October 22 and building further on their form.
