ROVERS left it late to secure all three points against Gillingham but again showed tremendous character to come back from a goal down.

It was not a classic and the Gas were not at their best, but it was another invaluable victory to further bolster our League One campaign.

Neither side managed any meaningful attempts on goal during a scrappy first half. The Gills were a well organised, physical team and we lacked creativity to break down their well organised defence.

Leadbitter was not having as much joy as usual down the wing, while the game seemed to be passing by Colkett, who has been a star performer in recent games.

The 9,500 crowd at the Memorial Stadium were patiently waiting for some excitement or goalmouth action but it came at the wrong end in the second half, as sloppy marking from a throw-in gave the visitors the lead in the 62nd minute.

It looked like it could be an uphill battle to get anything from the game at this stage but the players deserve huge credit for again refusing to be beaten as they mounted a late rally.

The impressive spirit in the side was on display as Lines got the Pirates back into the match with a great goal following a surging run.

Supersub Harrison’s composed finish in injury time gave us a dramatic breakthrough to gain all three points.

It is a sign of a good side, as they say, to win games when you are not playing well and this was certainly one of those occasions.

The win moved the Gas up to eighth in the table ahead of the trip to MK Dons on Tuesday night, when we completed another thrilling comeback to gain a point from a 3-3 draw.

At 3-1 down it looked like our decent run was coming to an end, but Taylor had other ideas as a brilliant hat-trick secured the draw, with two of his goals coming in the 87th and 88th minutes, leaving us 10th in the table.

Next up for Rovers is a trip to Oldham on Saturday.
