Ashley Down Old Boys 3 Dursley 64
DURSLEY went over for nine tries as they hammered Ashley Down Old Boys in the Gloucester One League in Bristol on Saturday afternoon.
But even with a try bonus point, they were unable to close the three-point gap on leaders Spartans who thrashed basement side Southmead by 102-5.
Nevertheless, it means that second-placed Dursley are still in the thick of the promotion dogfight at this early stage of the season.
Number eight Tim Wilcox had a superb match against Ashley Down as he went over for a hat-trick of tries behind a dominant pack who had the Old Boys scrum on toast all through the game.
Wings Chris Perritt and Brad Windall grabbed two tries each, while Ty Chappell and skipper Jack Robson got the other touchdowns.
And fly-half Grant Boucher was on superb kicking form, landing eight conversions and a penalty for a personal haul of 19 points.
Ashley Down’s only reply came via a penalty on 14 minutes, and, while they came close to a consolation try once or twice, the excellent Dursley defence kept them at bay.
Indeed, it was a great all-round performance from coach Tom Broomfield’s side who face Bream at home on Saturday where they will be looking to continue their run which has seen them lose only once in their five league matches so far – and that was a 25-17 loss to Spartans.
