GFA (North) Senior Amateur Cup Round Two

Dursley Town 0 Charlton Rovers 7

DURSLEY Town were dumped out of the County Cup by the same opponents and same scoreline for the second consecutive year as their injury crisis bit hard at the Rec.

With first-choice goalkeeper Pete Dykes and back-up Keith Watson ruled out through injury, young Joe Smith suffered a baptism of fire against higher-division Rovers.

Smith, who until the previous weekend had not started a competitive game all season, conceded seven goals and his team-mates were unable to muster a reply.

* Dursley Reserves saw their Stroud Charity Cup campaign come to an end as they were beaten 4-1 at home by Rodborough Old Boys. Kyle Ward scored for Town.

* Dursley Town goalkeeper Keith Watson is likely to miss the rest of the season after x-rays revealed he broke his leg in the first-team win over Stroud Harriers on October 15.

Watson fell awkwardly following a collision with Harriers’ former Slimbridge striker Craig Cole and was initially thought to have damaged ankle ligaments in the incident.

The 36-year-old managed to play on for the final ten minutes of the encounter, which Dursley won 3-2, but it has been revealed he did so with a broken right fibula.

He had his ankle secured with screws in an operation on Monday and is expected to be in plaster for six weeks with a return to action this season highly unlikely.
