CITY lost their second successive league match on Saturday as they were defeated 1-0 at Birmingham City.

We’ve now taken just four points from a possible 18 and things don’t get any easier as we travel down the M4 this weekend to in-form Reading who are third in the Championship table.

No doubt Birmingham are a good side, having lost just three games so far this term, but we gave a good enough account of ourselves on Saturday to have deserved a draw and maybe even a win.

We just didn’t get the rub of the green and in the Championship games are very often tight affairs and are won or lost in the blink of an eye.

A good example of that was on Saturday when in around the 78th minute Lee Tomlin’s free kick was magnificently pushed onto the woodwork by Blues ‘keeper Tomasz Kuszczak.

Then, just three minutes later the home side won a corner and after the ball was flicked on Che Adams fired in the home side’s winner from close range.

It was a bitter pill to swallow as we’d unquestionably been the better side in the second period and looked the more likely team to go on and win the game. The search for a first win against Blues since 1993 goes on!

This Saturday we travel to Reading’s Madejski Stadium (3pm) which also hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for City. We last won at the Madejski in 2009 but have lost all four meetings at the stadium since.

The Royals are in fantastic form having won four games on the trot, however these wins have come against teams currently at the wrong end of the table.

City can draw confidence from their second half display at St Andrews despite going on to lose the game.

I’m still confident we can be a match for any team in this division and now is the time for the players to prove it.
