Dursley 19 Brockworth 20

DURSLEY dropped to their in the league after a narrow one-point defeat at home to Brockworth on Saturday.

After heavy overnight rain ,Dursley welcomed their old adversaries and were hoping to maintain their unbeaten run and continue their challenge for top of the league table.

With a much changed forward pack due to unavailability and injury Dursley pressured from the kick off and fly half Grant Boucher slotted their first points from a penalty with only 3 minutes played 3-0.

Dursley continued to dominate and a charge down and break by Number 8 Simon Camm looked to add their first try but the final pass was intercepted by the Brockworth full back.

At the first scrum on the Dursley 22 the front five of Josh Case, Liam Akhurst, Ryan Akhurst, Leigh Lord and Jake Martin set out their stall by pushing the Brockworth pack off the ball and maintained that status for much of the game ably shepherded by scrum half Joe McGouch.

A rally by Brockworth was cleared by a joint effort from full back Liam Smith and winger Olli Holford. With 15 minutes played Boucher had a second opportunity at the posts but the long distance kick skimmed wide 3-0.

Strong tackling by centre Duncan Goodison, winger Chris Perrett and L Akhurst thwarted the Brockworth attack.

Dursley were controlling the game well with Martin, Silas Winterbottom and centre Sam Castledine making hard yards. With 5 minutes left in the half Camm picked up at the base of the scrum to cross for a try converted by Boucher bringing the half time score to 10-0.

The second half started with Mark Perry replacing Martin and 5 minutes in Boucher slotted a long range penalty to increase the lead 13-0.

More strong tackling by Goodison and flanker Jack Rowe kept Brockworth in their own half but an infringement allowed Brockworth their first points from a penalty 5 mintues later 13-3.

Dursley countered form the restart with a further penalty kicked by Boucher 16-3. With 15 minutes played Tom Crosby replaced R Akhurst.

With much of the game in the centre of the pitch Brockworth were the first to capitalise adding a penalty kick with 25 minutes played 16-6 but missed a further opportunity with 10 minutes left on the clock.

A rather harsh decision by the referee to award Brockworth a penalty try for offside allowed them back into the game 16-13. R Akhurst rejoined for Case. Pressure from the restart allowed Boucher to add a penalty to increase the margin 19-13.

In the dying minutes Brockworth made a break to score in the corner with their kicker adding the difficult extras and win with the last kick of the game 19-20.

Dursley are now behind unbeaten league leaders Spartans and two points behind Gloucester Old Boys, who have moved into second.

Dursley’s next game on Saturday is away against mid table Widden Old Boys and your support would be greatly appreciated.
