England Hockey Boys’ U18 Plate second round

Wotton-under-Edge Under-18s 4 Olton and West 2 (Full time score 2-2. Wotton won 4-2 on penalty flicks)

WOTTON-under-Edge went through to the next stage of the national plate on penalty flicks.

After great attacking play at the start, there were a few chances at goal. However, Olton managed to get a break to make it 1-0.

Wotton tried hard to recover and with some great defensive play managed to hold off the opposition for most of the remaining half, but just before the half time whistle Olton scored again making it 2-0.

Wotton bounced back in the second half with some silky skills from Michael Buist, relaying the ball to Chris Barton who finished the attack with a ping into the bottom corner.

Wotton’s defenders transferred the ball to the midfield and with some great offensive play by midfielders Ben Butter, David Holt, Pat Car, and Benjy Wells, the ball was passed to Dan Jones who played through to Buist to reverse slapped it in to the opposition’s goal to equal the score at full time.

At penalty flicks, captain Wells stepped up to score the first. Soon Wotton, through Buist and Patteson, were 3-1 up. The opposition then flicked straight down the middle at Thomas and put one over the bar. Finally, Dave Holt secured Wotton’s victory with the last flick to end on 4-2 and a place in the next round of the competition.
