BERKELEY Town caused an upset in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League first division on Saturday by putting a spoke in Cam Bulldogs’ ambitions of challenging for the top.
Berkeley achieved only their fourth victory of 13 league games this season as they inflicted a fifth defeat of the campaign on the Bulldogs.
It means that Cam are now level on points with second-placed Brockworth Albion but have played a match more than their rivals and have also played one more than the teams below them.
It was 1-1 at half time at Station Road in Berkeley on Saturday with Martin Booth getting Cam’s goal. But goals from Pete Lavis and Aaron Nash sealed the three points for Berkeley with a 2-1 victory.
Sharpness’ challenge for the top slipped again as they went down to a 3-0 home defeat by leaders Ruardean Hill Rangers.
Sharpness, who were challenging for the top earlier in the season, are down to fifth but a turn of fortune could still see them climbing back into contention.
It was a tough ask to beat Rangers and it did not help that the game was a feisty affair with a number of yellow cards being brandished by the ref.
Dursley Town’s second division form failed to improve in division two as they went down to a 2-1 away defeat at English Bicknor.
And it was the same feeling of defeat for Wotton Rovers who were 3-0 down at half-time against Mitcheldean and, even though Ben Mooney scored in the second-half, another Mitcheldean goal left Rovers beaten 4-1.
