The Marches 1 League
Wotton-under-Edge 3rds 1 South Glos 3
WOTTON Thirds hosted South Glos on Saturday and although the score line in the previous meet was a blues domination, South Glos lined up with a stronger and more determined team to take back some dignity, and they did!
The 3-1 loss was not without a fight from the home team, with some really good positives to take away from the day.
Although the match didn’t go Wotton’s way, there were parts of play, including player-of-the match Stuart Saunderson’s relentless tackles and solid defending, that showed why Wotton have the points and fourth place position in their league.
Strong pass and movement at times challenged South Glos, but lack of smart decision making at crucial times took its toll, with the away team firing a couple of goals in, the first unfortunately being helped in by a blue stick.
A fantastic reverse stick shot from Callum Niddrie gave hope as the second half got under way, but another goal from South Glos settled the two-goal deficit not long after.
With two games on the cards this weekend (an away game to Hereford and a rearranged game at home to Abergavenny), Wotton seconds’ heads are up and ready for action.
