Berkeley Division 1

Wotton-under-Edge 1st 4 Westberries 1

WOTTON were keen to get a positive result against the strong Bristol side, and did but really had to work for it.

For most of the first half, Wotton were under pressure and conceded a goal from open play after 10 minutes, and did well to prevent further damage as the home side continued their challenge.

The team talk, the prevailing wind or the direction of the earth’s magnetic flux must have been the difference because Wotton completely dominated the second half from beginning to end. Jasmin George levelled the score at a penalty corner five minutes in and repeated the exercise five minutes later.

The pattern continued with injector Myra Patterson getting the third, but the jewel of the piece was Lauren Leyland’s sizzling shot from open play while under pressure from two defenders.

This was a great result for Wotton, which required true grit and determination to reverse the goal deficit and the first half pressure at a difficult away venue. Sophie Adamson and Olivia Green were influential in the turn around, and joint players of the match Patterson and Izzy Grimes created the structure onto which the success was pinned.
