Wotton-Under-Edge 2 Newent 1

THE LAST game of the season for Wotton-Under-Edge got underway in stunning spring sunshine.

The boys in blue, with promotion already secured to the Premiership, wanted to finish the season in style.

They certainly enjoyed the better of the chances in the first half with a number of shots saved by the Newent goalie.

Finally, the pressure told and Harry Willcox slotted the ball home from close range. Wotton continued to attack but could not find a second goal.

With Wotton pushing hard to score Newent were restricted to attacking on the break with Wotton keeper George Lampkin saving his side with a stylish save when faced with three attackers.

Newent did finally score when a ball played across the Wotton D, allowing the Newent striker to score from close range.

Desperate for a win. The home side kicked back into gear and created more chances. The winning goal was scored by Ryan Howarth with a neat deflection from the top of D.

The final whistle brought an end to what has been a magnificent season, with a third consecutive promotion bringing premiership hockey to Wotton-under-Edge next season
