Gloucestershire County League

Frampton United 1 Bristol Telephones 2

FRAMPTON United's bid for the Gloucestershire County League title took a dent as Bristol Telephones beat them and subsequently went top of the table.

The visitors got off to a flying start going ahead after a minute and half with a fortuitous goalfrom a free kick on the left side halfway down the eighteen yard box. It was swung over by Ben Griffiths and the flight deceived home keeper Fraser Wilson struck the upright rebounded onto the keeper and into the net.

Frampton’s first attempt on goal in the ninth minutes almost brought them level as Joe Wilton bore down on the ball but Phones keeper Will Osborne just managed to get there first and cleared.

On fifteen minutes Wilton was through on goal but again Osborne came to the rescue saving with his legs.

From that save the ball was pumped long up field where Mike Alvis was waiting and he strove forward to just outside the box and unleashed an unstoppable shot past Wilson. Frampton could not have got off to a worse start and their slowness to get started had put them two goals down after fifteen minutes.

Whilst the visitors always looked dangerous the home side could well have pulled a goal back on twenty nine minutes when Steve Jackson broke through but Osborne smothered the ball.

Then just before the break a great cross across the face of the Phones goal was met by Joe Wilton but he fired the ball into the side netting.

Frampton got off to a better start in the second half and a great cross from full back Max Harper-Emerson was just too high for Kris Bulley. In the fifty first minute Osborne brought of two great saves to deny Kris Bulley pulling a goal back for the home side.

Then two minutes later a great cross from Nathan Dennis skimmed across the face of the Phones goal and Jack Bartman was unable to get the final touch.

The home side were definitely looking to get back into the game but again with a great chance to score Jack Bartman headed over the bar from another good cross from Max Harper-Emerson.

In the eighty third minute all the pressure paid of as Steve Jackson split the visitors defence to send Matt Cook clear to slot the ball past Osborne.

The home side continued to press and in the eighty sixth minute Max Harper-Emerson had a great chance to level but shot straight into the arms of Osborne.
