THE RECENT good weather brought the best out in Cotswold Edge Golf Club members recently with the sunshine encouraging a good entry for the Foundation Day competition, which raises funds for the Junior Section. Martin Dyke won the trophy with an impressive 43 stableford points.

Results – Men Division 1: Martin Dyke 43, Roger Fay 37 & Ian Nurding 36; Division 2: Chris Sheppard 42, Simon Read 40 & Gary Merchant 39; Division 3: Phil Frankland 38, Colin Weston 37 & Steve Mayer 35; Ladies: Gill Polley 39, Catherine Beale 39 & Sue Reid 37.

The Ladies took part in the Bridgestone Golf Express 9-hole qualifier where the top 20 players from the country qualify to play at Royal Birkdale before the Open Championship. Angela Ryan won with 21 stableford points followed by Brenda Alway and Jane Rowell both on 20 and waits to hear if she will go forward.

Angela previously won the Australian Spoons pairs qualifier with partner Julie Cruickshank with 37 stableford points from Caroline Stokes & Trish Stokes 31 and Alison Ancrum & Jan Pemberton-James 31.

Angela and Julie go forward to the regional final at Long Sutton Golf Club in Somerset.

The Seniors welcomed Filton for their friendly match and were delighted to win 4 – 2 on the day.
